About the Matadatabase

The meta-database developed by the DNA under ODINAFRICA project is a collection of ocean and coastal data and information, organized in such a way that it gives information that leads or links datasets or databases located else where in Tanzania. Data and information is arranged in such a way that browsing and searching for a scientist or institution name, or subject is easily done. Click here to Search the Meta-Database.

The overall aims of the the Ocean data and information Meta-database can be summarised as follows to:

¨      lead interested people and institutions to where and who holds specified information regarding coastal environment or resources.

¨ give a comprehensive list of scientists and institutions holding oceanographic datasets or dealing with collection, analysis dissemination and management of data and information relevant to coastal zone management and research.

¨      offer scientists a venue to advertise themselves and inform the general community on published and unpublished research findings and the type of research projects being carried out now.

¨      present information regarding existing, proposed and potential marine protected areas in Tanzania.

¨      inform about national projects and programs that are ecologically and/or economically sensitive.

¨      inform about district resource potentials and local initiatives and struggles in coastal and marine environmental and resource utilization and conservation.

¨      inform about existing datasets and documentation in Tanzania.
